Mental Health Information and Support for the Queanbeyan Community

HOME in Queanbeyan is a grass-roots community initiative seeking to provide long-term supported accommodation for people with chronic mental illness who require assistance to live independently. Father Peter Day and the Board of Home is pleased to announce the commencement of 'Open House', a mental health information and support program for the whole community. It will commence with a monthly luncheon for people and families experiencing mental health issues or difficult times. It is also for people who want to know more about mental health or who feel they can help others.

Open House will be run by Dr Leanne Craze and Anne Pratt, whose experience and expertise in mental health is well known in our local community. Leanne and Anne are being helped by a volunteer organising committee comprising local people who know from personal experience the importance of being able to get good information when it is needed. The topic for the first Open House on Thursday 5th July is - 'Peeping out from under the Doona - help for coping with the winter blues'. Information will be provided to help people understand why they might be feeling down in winter and what they might do to feel better. It will be a helpful session for anyone wanting to know more about the depression. The Topic for August is 'Learning how to take the terror out of panic attacks' will be helpful for people wanting help with or information about panic attacks and anxiety. If you are interested, just come along or register your interest with Leanne Craze 0408 869 051 or Anne Pratt 0412 460 308.
