Supporting the homeless mentally ill


24 June has been earmarked for our first function for 2009. In conjunction with the Business Enterprise Centre and the Queanbeyan Business Council, HOME will host a Breakfast for the business community of Queanbeyan at The Q.

It will also be the official launch of construction of the HOME Project with the turning of the sod to be the feature activity of the function.

Former Governor General and Patron of HOME Sir William Deane will attend along with other dignitaries who have been prominent in the support of this wonderful project – a project that will provide 20 apartment style accommodation units to house those who are homeless due to mental illness in the Queanbeyan and surrounding area.

HOME Board member and official organiser of the function Franca Jones along with Bill Baker, Chairman of the Queanbeyan Business Council and Steve Jamieson, Executive Officer of the Business Enterprise Centre are coordinating the breakfast are hopeful of the support from the many business houses in Queanbeyan for this worthwhile project.

Live broadcast of the occasion will be conducted by ABC Radio. The HOME Project which has the support of the Australian Government and numerous Foundations has had fantastic support from the community. Chairman Tony Carey expects approval of the Development Application by the Queanbeyan City Council to be received in coming weeks.

Chairman of the Queanbeyan Business Council Bill Baker has offered to support the HOME Project Breakfast with a considerable donation from the organization towards the cost of the function. This is wonderful contribution by the Queanbeyan Business Council and highlights the concern and support by the business community of the HOME Project.

The HOME Breakfast is a fundraiser for the project It is being coordinated by the HOME Board in conjunction with the Queanbeyan Business Council and the Business Enterprise Centre. The function to be held on 24 June at The Q will incorporate the turning of the sod to commemorate the commencement of the building project on the corner of Rutledge and Crawford St at the former Parish Hall.

Mr Baker has paid tribute to the Board of HOME and the initiative shown to assist the mentally ill who are homeless in the Queanbeyan region. “This is a fantastic opportunity for the business community of Queanbeyan to show their support and concerns for those less fortunate in our community”.
